Noggin Point

Part of the Noggin Cove Islands collection, the Noggin Point shrug is a roomy statement piece. The Fair Isle patterning on the back is mitered at four corners to form the central x motif. Complimentary simple bands of the Shetland Da Flee lace pattern extend outward from each miter, filling in the four squared corners. The pattern is written so that you can knit the stranded colourwork either in-the-round with steeks or flat with no steeks.

Sizes

(1, 2, 3) (4, 5, 6) with finished back waist widths:

(30.5, 35.5, 40.5) (45.5, 53.5, 63.5)cm / (12, 14, 16) (18, 21, 25)”.

Intended to fit waist circumferences:

(61 to 71, 71 to 81, 81 to 91) (91 to 107, 107 to 127, 127 to 152)cm / (24 to 28, 28 to 32, 32 to 36) (36 to 42, 42 to 50, 50 to 60)”.

Choose the size in which your waist circumference falls within this range. If your waist circumference falls in between the ranges, then consult the list of measurements on page 3 and choose a size depending on your desired ease. Sample shown is the size 2 on an 82cm / 32.25” waist circumference corresponding to zero ease at waist.

Gauge

Stockinette: 28 sts and 42 rows to 10cm / 4” with size A needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Fair Isle: 28 sts to 10cm / 4” and 14 rounds/rows of chart to 3.7cm / 1.5” with size B needles (and size A needles for single colour rounds) after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Needles and Notions

The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 2.5mm (US 1.5) 60cm / 24” circular needles for single colour St st and single colour rounds in Fair Isle Bands #1 and #2; 100cm / 40” or longer for single colour rounds in Fair Isle Bands #3 and #4 using travelling loop.

Size B: 3mm (US 2.5) 60cm / 24” circular needles for multi colour rounds in Fair Isle Bands #1 and #2; 100cm / 40” or longer for multi colour rounds in Fair Isle Bands #3 and #4 using travelling loop.

You will also need: 3 spare needles or interchangeable cables for holding sts, 3mm to 3.5mm (US D-3 to E-4) crochet

hook for surface crochets along the very centre of the Fair Isle bands (optional but I do recommend doing it!), a needle at least 2 sizes smaller than your ribbing needle for the Jeny’s Stretch BO, stitch markers. If steeking, I also recommend a felting tool so that you can trim off all of your steek fray.
