Port Rexton

Port Rexton is Port Rexton in a sweater and a play on Zimmermann’s wishbone construction. Just like the placename, Port Rexton is angular and multi-faceted, perfect for the seaside, hiking, homebound or sitting in the Port Rexton brewery. It’s been on a really long journey, where will yours take you?

Gauge

Fair Isle: 28 sts and 34 rows/rounds to 10cm / 4” with size B needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Lace: 20 sts and 36 rows or rounds to 10cm / 4” with size B needles after light blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Needles and Notions

Gauge was achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 2.5mm (US 1.5) 60cm (24”), 80cm (32”), or 100cm (40”) circulars for single-colour rounds and for the corrugated ribbing at hem and cuffs; i-cord edgings

Size B: 3mm (US 2.5) 60cm (24”), 80cm (32”), or 100cm (40”) circulars for Fair Isle body; 60cm (24”) circulars or straights for lace sleeves.

Note: if doing the sleeves in the round you will need size A and B preferred needles for small circumferences.

You will also need:
tapestry or darning needle, stitch markers, removable markers.

Techniques

  • colourwork in the round (lower body)

  • colourwork flat (upper body)

  • corrugated ribbing

  • decreasing stitches in lace

  • welts

  • short rows

  • I-cord edging
