Conche

Conch are some of the most beautiful creatures of the sea, but the most beautiful might be the ones with psuedoconch -- the Sea Butterfly. This enormous wrap is worked in one piece; after the first half is complete, stitches are picked up to work the second half. Pattern is written so that you can either 1) work the stranded colourwork in the round with a steek, or 2) work the stranded colourwork flat with no steek. After the entire body of the wrap is complete, unique applied edging is worked around the entire outer perimeter.

Size

Wingspan: 222cm / 87.5” and Depth: 111cm / 43.5”

Yarn

Wild Atlantic Yarns Emer Sock (100% non-Superwash Organic Merino Wool; 350 metres per 100 grams) in 5 colours. Colours and approximate amounts are given below. The number of skeins of Emer Sock is given in brackets.

A. Peach Orchard (1 skein): 350 metres / 385 yards

B. Beechwood (2 skeins): 655 metres / 715 yards

C. Sandstone (1 skein): 325 metres / 355 yards

D. Clover (1 skein): 280 metres / 305 yards

E. The Old Slate Roof (1 skein): 350 metres / 385 yards

Gauges

Single-colour stockinette: 22 sts and 30 rows/rnds to 10cm / 4” with size A needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Stranded colourwork: 22 sts and 27 rows/rnds of Chart to 10cm / 4” with size B needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Needles and Notions

The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size

that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.

Size A: 3.25mm (US 3) 100cm / 40” for mesh and single-colour stockinette sections.

Size B: 3.75mm (US 5) 100cm / 40” colourwork sections. Note: if your gauge does not normally change between colourwork and single-colour stockinette then you will use size A needles for the colourwork rnds.

You will also need: spare needles or interchangeable cables for holding stitches, stitch markers, removable markers.

Techniques

* Either stranded colourwork in-the-round with steeks OR stranded colour flat with no steeks.

* Applied lace edging

* I-cord edging

* Lace worked flat

* Short Rows

Chandler Reach ✨ I played with Aubretia & Nutmeg in @jamiesonsofshetland for this beautiful sweater design, top down with some steeking. If you loved knitting Terra Nova, then you might like this one! It's 25% off until November 26 on Ravelry and
A throwback to Terra Nova 🥰 Terra Nova has specific horizontal bands of Fair Isle in the arms, gussets, and little wiggle room to add extra underarm fabric (all the arm shaping is in the lace sleeve panels). Tomorrow I'm publishing Chandler Reach (p
Is 7 colours too many for a hemp sweater? If you love them, it's most definitely not!!! 🥰 I'll have several more 100% hemp sweater designs next year with fewer colours....1 to 3 colours....in the meantime I just really want this one to be first.
