Astray

Sale Price: CA$9.00 Original Price: CA$12.00

Going astray and loving every minute of it. Astray is an aran weight, top-down circular yoke knit entirely in the round. The neckband is cast on and worked first, then the stranded colourwork is worked in the round, then short row shaping lifts the upper back; then stitches are divided for sleeves and lower body; then lower body is worked down to hem and sleeves are worked down to cuffs.

The main colour (charcoal) is 1 strand of aran weight and the constrast colour (light blue) is 2 strands of fluffy suri alpaca silk held together. The fluff factor of the constrast colour makes this sweater feel super soft and cozy, but if you want to use only aran weight yarn in this, then use 1 strand of gauge-appropriate aran weight for the main and 1 strand of gauge-appropriate aran weight for the contrasting colour with the metreage/yardage listed below.

GAUGES

To find your needle size, you need to swatch. If you don’t know whether your stitch gauge changes between single-colour stockinette and stranded colourwork, then you should swatch for both.

Stockinette: 17 sts / 23 rnds to 10cm / 4” using size A needles.
Stranded Colourwork: 17 sts / 17 rnds to 10cm / 4” using size B needles.

NEEDLES & NOTIONS

The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking. Note that the pattern is written assuming that the knitter needs to use a larger needle for stranded colourwork. If your gauge does not change between single-colour stockinette and stranded knitting, then you don’t need to change needle sizes.

Size A: 5.5mm (US 9) circular needles of varying lengths for single-colour stockinette
Size B: 6mm (US 10) circular needles of varying lengths for stranded colourwork

You will also need: spare interchangeable cables, spare needles or scrap yarn for holding stitches; stitch markers.
